Share a Komoot or Strava route with riders who don't use the app
You plan in Komoot, one friend lives on Strava, another has a Garmin and the newest member of the group has none of them. A route link from your app asks them to sign up or install something. A GPX file and one RideBriefing link doesn't.
Step 1: export the route as GPX
Every major route planner can export a route as a GPX file. The option is usually in the route's menu, often behind the three dots, under Export or Download. Choose GPX, and if you're asked between a track and a route, either works.
- Komoot: open the tour on the website or in the app and look for the download or export option.
- Strava: open the route, or an activity you recorded, and look for Export GPX.
- Ride with GPS: open the route and use Export, then the GPX track.
- Garmin Connect, Wahoo and others: open the course or route and look for Export.
Menus change from time to time, and some exports depend on your plan with that app. If the file has no elevation data, RideBriefing looks it up automatically.
Step 2: turn it into one link for the group
- Upload the GPX file on RideBriefing. It's analysed in your browser.
- Set the start time, the group's average speed and the stops, and add a note with the meeting point.
- Create the share link and post it in the group chat.
Everyone gets the same page: the map, the weather along the route at the time you'll be there, the climbs with their categories, the road surface and the return time. No app, no account, no "accept my follow request".
Riders who do use an app
They can download the GPX from the briefing page and import it into their own app or bike computer, so nobody has to rebuild the route by hand.
Why not just share the app link?
- It often asks people to log in or install the app before they see much.
- It shows the route, but not the plan: start time, meeting point, stops and when you'll be back.
- It doesn't tell anyone what the weather will be on the climb at 10:50.
Exported your GPX?
Share it with the groupQuestions
Can I share a Komoot tour with someone who doesn't have Komoot?
Yes. Export the tour as a GPX file, upload it on RideBriefing and share the link. It opens in any browser without an account.
Can I share a Strava route with someone who doesn't use Strava?
Yes. Export the route or activity as GPX, upload it on RideBriefing and send the link. The rider sees the route, the timings, the forecast and the climbs, and can download the GPX.
Does RideBriefing connect to my Komoot or Strava account?
No. You upload a GPX file, and nothing is linked to your accounts. That's also why nobody needs to sign in.
