Weather along your route, at the time you'll be there
A normal forecast tells you the weather where you are now. On a long ride you might be 60 km away and 800 m higher four hours later. RideBriefing reads your GPX file, works out when you'll reach each part of the route, and shows the forecast for that place at that time.
How it works
- Upload your GPX file. A route planned in Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS or Garmin Connect, or a ride you recorded. It's analysed in your browser.
- Set your start time and target average speed. RideBriefing estimates your timing along the route: slower on climbs, faster on descents.
- Read the forecast for each point. Checkpoints about every 12 km, plus the top of every categorised climb, each with the time you'll get there.
What you see for each point
- Temperature and feels-like temperature, which matters most at the top of a climb before a long descent.
- Chance of rain and expected rainfall at the time you pass.
- Wind for you: speed and direction relative to your direction of travel, shown as headwind, tailwind or crosswind. The elevation profile also shows which sections face the wind.
- Sunrise and sunset, with a warning if you'll finish in the dark.
The briefing then turns this into plain advice: whether to pack a rain jacket, what to wear, and whether you need lights.
Why the time matters
Weather changes through the day and along the route. Showers often build in the afternoon, a valley can be 8°C warmer than the col above it, and wind usually picks up as the day goes on. Knowing that the rain is forecast for 14:00 near km 70, rather than "a 40% chance today", tells you whether to start an hour earlier, shorten the loop or just bring a jacket.
Where the forecast comes from
Forecasts come from Open-Meteo, which combines national weather services' models. Forecasts reach up to 16 days ahead and are most reliable within the next three days, so check again the evening before your ride. For shared rides, the forecast in the link preview is refreshed automatically in the days before the ride.

Brief your rideQuestions
How far ahead can I see the forecast?
Up to 16 days before the ride. Further ahead, RideBriefing shows the route, climbs and surface, and tells you from which date the forecast will be available.
Does it work with routes from Komoot or Strava?
Yes. Export the route as a GPX file from Komoot, Strava, Ride with GPS, Garmin Connect or Wahoo and upload it. Routes without elevation data work too: elevation is looked up automatically.
Does the wind change my estimated timing?
Not yet. Timings are based on your target average speed and the gradient. The wind is shown for each section so you can see where you'll face a headwind.
Is it free?
Yes. There's no account, no ads and no cookies.
